Dr. Elie Chahwan, GEM DBA 2019, is named Dean of Faculty at Lebanon's LGU

Shortly after defending his thesis and earning his DBA degree from GEM, Dr. Elie Chahwan, GEM DBA 2019, was named Dean of the Faculty of Business & Insurance at the Lebanese German University in Lebanon.

Taking on a new challenge

He tells us, “My course at GEM was an important turning point in my career that allowed me to promote myself in the academic world.”

This new challenge began in October 2020 while the world was still plagued with a global health crisis, forcing higher education institutions to innovate and adapt. But Dr. Chahwan was prepared to take on the challenge. 

Giving hope to the student body 

In his welcome address to the student body of the Faculty of Business and Insurance, he shared with them a Chinese proverb, “If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people," declaring the statement at the heart of LGU's mission that aims to shape the personality of its students by implanting and strengthening in them business ethics and high academic standards, helping them stand out in the professional field.

He proceeded to assure students of "an innovative educational process whether in virtual or online classrooms. Although 2020 has been the year of distance learning and unanticipated challenges. Nonetheless, it did not impair the quality education that LGU offers.”
